The most delicate of ballet melodies instantly transported me to somewhere dreamy and magical. Beautiful ballerinas from the Royal New Zealand Ballet flooded the runway, dancing between string lights suspended from the ceiling. Adorned in Andrea’s new active wear range ‘AM Fit’, the dancers showcased sports bra’s, leggings and tanks all in vibrant, tropical prints.
Andrea’s ‘I AM’ collection titled ‘Elaborate Jungle’ followed suit, also featuring beautiful custom-designed prints. I really loved the styling for this show! Fishnet tights teamed with chunky ankle boots made an unexpected combo and sunglasses from her eyewear collection brought in that extra pop of colour.
Leaving the best for last, we saw ‘The Pursuit’ a beautifully designed, romantic collection featuring vibrant jewel tones, orient inspired printed dresses and gorgeous faux- fur accessories. Note my favourite piece from the whole collection, a sheer black maxi skirt adorned with oriental cranes. Just beautiful!
I managed to nab five minutes with the talented designer to chat with her about the show, her top essentials that got her through the week and which pieces she feels you need next season!
Congratulations on such a beautiful show Andrea! Your opening was incredible! As soon as I heard the beautiful ballet music I was instantly transported to some place magical.
Thankyou so much! The Ballet performance was also my highlight, they were so inspirational and clever.
What are you most looking forward to now that Fashion Week has come to an end?
Meeting with all my amazing retailers and showing them through the collection, I love getting their opinions and of course racking up some sales!
What were your must-have items to see you through such a busy week?
Smashbox cosmetics kept me looking my best behind the scenes. Joico products kept my hair in check and coffee! Lot’s of coffee!
What is one standout piece from your collection that you feel every NZ women needs to get her hands on this season?
A piece from our Eye-wear range! Sunglasses make any outfit instantly cool but are also very functional.
And lastly what’s your go-to outfit, those pieces you turn to time and time again?
Always one of our coats or knits! So easy to add one of these pieces to any outfit and look stylish.
I had a chance to chat with 2 of the talented Make-up artists responsible for creating Andrea’s gorgeous beauty looks on the runway.
One look at their Instagram feed and you can see why they were chosen to lead the @smashboxcosmetics makeup team for Andrea Moore’s incredible Show. I was lucky enough to receive a touch up with these babes, and they made my skin glow like never before! I chatted with them to find out the inspiration behind the makeup looks for the show, plus their favourite products to use to create that glowing, flawless base!
Tell me Ladies, what was the overall vision for the Makeup looks today at Andrea’s show?
Fresh with edgy elements, with a big focus on skin. We created a total of 4 looks, each with a bright pop of colour tied in.
What products did you use to create that flawless and glowing base?
We used the Smashbox Radiance Primer, which gives the skin a gorgeous glowy base and the BB Water Foundation for a healthy, dewy glow.
It’s really all about the glow right now isn’t it? I feel like that’s one of your signature makeup looks and something so coveted right now. Tell me what is your favourite highlighter to use to get that mega watt glow?
We are obsessed with the Smashbox Spotlight Palette in Pearl – you can really layer it up over the skin, and it’s perfect for eyes as well. You can use this palette dry or wet, we just mist our brushes with the Smashbox Primer Water and apply.
What would you say was your biggest ‘Hero’ product used when creating the looks for Andrea backstage?
Definitely the Smashbox Primer Water, we used this for almost every element of the makeup looks created for Andrea. It’s super refreshing, really helped to prep the models skin for makeup, plus finished off all the looks by setting the make-up. We also used it to create amazing wet-look eye-shadow looks.
And lastly girls who would you most like to create a makeup look for and why? Celeb? Model?
A celebrity or model would be awesome, but creating wearable looks on the everyday woman is what I love the most!
I was lucky enough to head backstage before the show and experience first-hand, all of the hard work that goes on behind the scenes. Unlike a lot of other shows backstage, Andrea and her Team seemed to have everything running very smoothly. Model’s, Make-up Artists, Hair-stylists, Photographer’s, all busily working together to get their jobs done. I met with some amazing creatives backstage who work tirelessly to ensure everything is in order when we see that first model hit the runway. Here are some snapshots from my stint backstage.
AND THAT’S A WRAP!
