My lovely friend Jaime and I were in need of a good catch-up, so off we set with the kiddies in tow to find a yummy spot for morning tea. The kids had their minds set on cupcakes, so we decided to head over to the lovely little Bluebells Cakery store in Takapuna.
Right in the heart of Takapuna, you’ll find Bluebells tucked down a little cobblestone lane called ‘Fourtieth & Hurstmere’. This area I believe, is one of the best in Takapuna for a variety of quality eateries. You will find Bluebells nestled amongst two other great spots @burgerburger and @pokepoke.
We arrive at the quaint little cakery and are immediately welcomed by the friendly staff. The cakery itself is light and airy with so many delicious treats on offer. We take our sweet time to decide as the kids were having a visual overload, all pointing to different treats in the cabinet and finding it difficult to commit to just one.
In the end they all decide to settle on the same treat (no surprises there) which today was the vanilla cupcake with pale pink icing and rainbow coloured sprinkles accompanied by a baby chino each. Jaime ordered some delicious banana cake and a pot of white tea and I ordered bircher muesli with a large latte.
Outside, we found a long table set amongst the fairy lights where we could all fit comfortably and the kids quickly tucked in. Two minutes later, icing all over their faces and crumbs on their shirts, it’s safe to say they enjoyed their treats! Whilst the kids played with the books and toys Bluebells conveniently has on offer, we talk all things mom’s and bubs over our hot drinks. My Latte was strong and creamy, just how I like it and my Bircher Muesli was the perfect mid morning snack, jam packed with lots of fruits and nuts and covered in creamy greek yoghurt and berry compote, yum!
I must say though, my all time favourite treats from Bluebells and something i always take when visiting friends, are the ginger slice and afghan cookies! I cannot go past ginger slice ever and Bluebells ginger slice has the perfect proportion of moist and chewy biscuit base to buttery, sweet ginger topping. The Afghans are just like my grandmother used to make, deliciously crunchy with the most velvety smooth, glossy, chocolate icing. Both of these sweet treats always insure I’m welcomed with wide, open arms when visiting friends!
I highly recommend a visit to Bluebells Cakery with your little ones, if you haven’t already that is! Super lovely staff, child friendly and most importantly great cupcakes, food and coffee! They also offer a high tea service which I’ve been thinking about booking in for soon! I thought it would be such a fun Mommy and Daughter event with some other Mommy friends, who’s interested in making a day of it?
